Environment and Us

Here at Fire Protection Online, we think that caring for the environment is a good thing. Not in a flag-waving, sandal-wearing, over-the-top way, but in a common sense, don't-make-it-worse-than-it-is way.

And this is not hard to do so these are a few of the ways we help:

Recycle More 1. We open the windows instead of using the air-conditioning (when possible)

2. Our new warehouse has extra roof panels to enable the lights to be off during bright days

3. Toilets and stores have sensor lights

4. Hand dryers are automatic

5. Invoices and customer correspondence are all sent by email

6. And we are proud of this one - we re-use all incomming packaging such as pallet wrap, pallets, cardboard boxes, etc, for sending out goods or for padding of fragile products. We do not throw away any cardboard at all

7. Every room has recycling bins for paper, glass, plastics, tins, cans, etc and this is all recycled of by a specialist local contractor

8. Our entire company weekly rubbish collection fits in one or two black sacks but we'll try and reduce it further

9. We inform people how to environmentally, and legally, dispose of fire extinguishers whether from us or others

10. As a seller of electrical goods, we are registered for the Distributor Take Back Scheme with (member 6123). Click this link for more details

11. As a "distance seller" of batteries, we are able to take back our batteries for environmentally safe disposal at our warehouse in Kent. This service is free of charge. Please call 0800 321 3145 for details. You can also dispose of these through our ValPak membership with full details on the bank locator

Please note - batteries must NOT be posted to us as this is dangerous

12. We choose to not sell products that may harm the environment when a more friendly alternative is available, such as halon

13. Our staff is actively encouraged to recycle at home (or bring items and large boxes in to use our facilities) and to reduce vehicle journeys - car-sharing for example (our boss has a member of staff car-share with him)

14. If possible, our service providers and suppliers will be chosen if they have a commitment to reducing their carbon footprint. Even our web host management company planted trees in Chesham to negate our web server's carbon emissions

There are probably many other ways to help keep the skies and the sea blue and we will try to find as many of them as we can.

Any other suggestions are always welcome.
