Personal Protection Signs

Mandatory personal protection signs all feature a distinguishable pale blue background with white graphics. Mandatory signs are used to inform staff and other occupants of important actions that must be followed to ensure their safety in the workplace, for example lifting correctly or wearing eye goggles.

Personal protection signs are commonly used in high-risk environments, such as construction sites and warehouses. They mostly relate to protective clothing, such as ear defenders, hard hats or face shields.

All our safety signage is manufactured right here in the UK and made from premium, high-grade materials that can withstand even the toughest environments. They are also fully photoluminescent for maximum visibility in all lighting conditions.

Why are personal protection signs blue?

All mandatory signs – which include personal protection notices – are colour-coded blue so they are distinguishable from other safety signage, such as red danger signs or green exit signs. Personal protection signs ensure that staff and visitors are wearing essential safety clothing to minimise the risk of injury or contamination in the workplace.

Following the Safety & Signals Regulations 1996, mandatory signs should be round in shape and the blue background should take up at least 50% of the surface. Only white text and symbols can be used to convey messages.

What personal protection signs are required in my workplace?

Personal protection signs are typically used in workplaces with a high risk of injury. You should assess the nature of your business and the day-to-day tasks of employees to determine which mandatory signage is most appropriate. For example, construction sites are likely to require 'wear high visibility clothing' signs. And factories may require 'pedestrians must use this route' notices.

All of our signs use the latest symbols and fully comply with BS EN ISO7010 regulations. It is the employer's responsibility to ensure that blue safety signs are visible and easy to spot.

Should personal protection signs be illuminated?

Personal protection signs are not required to be illuminated unless the area has a particularly low level of natural light. However, we always advise opting for photoluminescent signage where possible.

Our range of blue safety signs is made from Jalite AAA plastic which illuminates for optimum visibility. This means they can be seen in all lighting conditions – even power cuts.
