The premium fire-rated mailbox system is suitable for vertical and horizontal installations and is designed for wall mounting, recessing or freestanding with black, grey and white finishes available to suit your décor. With post inserted via the flapped front aperture, mail can then be retrieved by unlocking the front panel. Additionally, it helps to prevent mail theft and vandalism.
Essential for maintaining the existing fire rating integrity, the letterbox is designed to contain an arson attack, or withstand and prevent the spread of fire for up to 60 minutes. Large enough to hold A4 sized letters, the mailboxes are Royal Mail and BS EN 13724 compliant so you can be sure standard post will always fit.
How Do The Fire Rated Mailboxes Work?
Each mailbox includes a number of features which all work together to guarantee its fire integrity. With an inward sprung hinge on the flap to ensure it remains tightly shut after use, the aperture uses an intumescent seal which expands to fill this gap when exposed to very high temperatures. This restricts oxygen flow to the inside of the mailbox, and either containing the fire inside or outside.
The cylinder lock fitted to every fire rated post box even has a fire cover to ensure that fire and oxygen cannot pass through the tiny gaps in the lock. The main body and front of each mailbox is also made of electro-galvanised steel which is powder coated to offer a sleek finish. Together, this is resistant to fire with the surface stopping the spread of fire, and even comply with London Underground Engineering Standard 2-01001-002.
With the 60 minute fire rated mailbox, you can ensure you’re compliant to BS476 Part 22 and conforming to BS476 Part 6 & 7. This means they’ve sufficiently passed independent testing to offer the one-hour fire integrity and will satisfy the demands of fire protection in most cases. These also comply with the 2014 guidelines for new homes by Secured By Design.
Choosing Your Mailbox
The size and weight of our FR60 mailboxes mean they’re suitable for many internal applications. Perfect for recessing within a fire-rated wall for a flush finish within a new build, both the vertical and horizontal mailboxes can also be secured onto a wall or simply installed upon a plinth.
Manufactured by Decayeux, the European leading mailbox manufacturer, these single mailboxes are available in black, grey and white RAL colour finishes as standard and have a 10-year warranty. However, other colours, finishes and specifications are available on request (see the datasheet below for more details), including units featuring multiple mailboxes for apartment block lobbies.
Please Note: Due to the specialist nature of this product, each mailbox is made to order and is therefore not available on our next day service. There is a four to six week lead time for the Premium Fire-Rated Mailbox System.
