The Vigil 3m x 2m lithium-ion battery fire blanket is the perfect size for small and medium portable devices which are powered by a lithium battery. Who Needs A Lithium Fire Blanket?

Currently, there are very limited methods of safely tackling a fire involving a lithium-ion battery fire as they burn at extreme temperatures – even just a small one – and create an effect known as "thermal runaway" where one cell ignites the next one in an unstaoppable chain. So, if your premises has lithium-ion powered devices – particularly a large quantity stored together – then having a lithium fire blanket is advised.

Generally, such devices are very safe. However, it’s when they become damaged or inappropriately used and recharged, that lithium batteries pose a fire risk and can cause injury. The medium lithium battery fire blanket is designed for battery fires where there is a risk of thermal runaway to contain the risk and reduce damage and help prevent the escape of toxic fumes.

In fact, the single-use lithium blanket should be available anywhere that a lithium fire could break out. Supplied in a red bag which is clearly labelled for easy identification in an emergency, features shoulder straps to carry as a backpack, and a carry handle. You should ensure this is kept in an easily accessible location for an emergency.

How To Use A Lithium Battery Fire Blanket

Once you have removed the 3m x 2m lithium fire blanket from the bag, at a safe distance from the fire, place it on the ground then unroll and unfold the blanket. Preferably with two people, each holding a handle, pulling the blanket over the device in one continuous movement, taking extra care of the fire, toxic fumes and chemical risks.

The weight of the fire blanket will settle, and you should check that it is tight around the object with the edges tucked in. This should then be left on until deemed safe by your local fire brigade so they can assess the situation further, and removed by them – remember, this will not extinguish the fire, but will reduce the associated risks and prevent the fire from spreading.

Once used on a fire, you will need to responsibly dispose of, and replace this product.
