When you’re keeping a fire extinguisher outside, then to ensure you have protection all year round, then you’ll want an Antifreeze Fire Extinguisher. With your standard water or foam fire extinguisher, they will freeze at 0 degrees Centigrade, because they’re water.

With the liquid inside the extinguisher, you would be unaware until it failed to discharge at the moment you need it most. It can also potentially result in the internal lining of the fire extinguisher becoming damaged.

With an Antifreeze Fire Extinguisher, it will survive even the colder winter months in the UK, being able to withstand temperatures of -9 degrees Centigrade. By containing an antifreeze additive, your water or foam extinguisher will withstand lower temperatures and will still operate in an emergency.

Other than the antifreeze, the fire extinguishers are otherwise the same as their standard counterparts. A water is safe to use on Class A fires (wood, paper, cloth, etc), and a foam extinguisher is suitable for Class A and Class B (flammable liquid) fires.

This makes the Antifreeze Fire Extinguisher suitable for a camping site, garage or farm. They’re even suitable for those buildings which can get bitterly cold when they have no heating, such as storage facilities and scout halls.
