The genuine, original, 2010 Dorgard (beware of imitations and secondhand) is available and in stock from the UK's number 1 online fire safety supplier, Fire Protection Online.
Forget the huge expense and time-consuming wiring of traditional magnetic door holders (and the holes in walls when people yank them shut!). The Dorgard is wireless, battery-operated (batteries included) and installed in less than five minutes using the four screws and template supplied.
Our 2009 version is accepted by UK Fire Authorities and now complies with the new BS7273-4:2007 Category C along with BS EN 1155: 1997, EN61000-6-1:2001 and EN61000-6-3:2001+A11:2004.
How Does Dorgard Work?

Do you remember those little dancing flowerpots that danced when they heard music? Well, that inspired a clever man to devise an amazing product that stops people having to wedge fire doors open (which breaks the Fire Regs). When a Dorgard is fixed to the door and the top knob is pressed down with your foot, the fire door is held open by a rubber foot. Then, if a fire alarm of 65 decibels or more sounds for 14 seconds (just like the music starting the dancing flowerpot), the rubber foot retracts and the door shuts by itself. Clever, eh?
Dorgard Colours
We hold stock of six colours including the designer versions;
black,
brown (brown),
brass,
brushed aluminium,
red and
white.
Do We Need A Floorplate?
If your fire door weighs more than 120kg, or the floor surface is slippery such as wood, laminate, Amtico or vinyl, if it has a mains-powered closer or if the door creeps when held open by a Dorgard, then you need to use the
floorplate (included in every box along with fixings).
The foot plate has a bump stop for the door and a recess to locate the rubber foot. It just takes four screws to fix to the floor.
What About Maintenance?
Each retainer is supplied with two C-size batteries that should be good for 12 months. We strongly recommend that these are replaced every year on a particular day whether they need it or not. That way, it will not be forgotten.
It is also recommended to replace the
rubber ferrule underneath (sold in packs of 5) at the same time as these will eventually become worn and the doors will start to creep shut.
If you have a fire alarm maintenance contract with an approved company (and you should have!), they should be able to do this for you at a small cost, much as they check magnetic door retainers.
Are Volume Discounts Available?
We like you already! Yes, if you have a larger building or multiple premises, please call us with the numbers as we have excellent discounts available for large quantity purchases despite our Dorgard price being so low for small orders.
