Alarm Cables and Fittings

Finding the right fire alarm cables and fittings can be overwhelming. Ours are easy and quick to install, as well as weather, moisture and fire-resistant – in line with British Standards and the 18th Edition regulations.

In 2019, cable regulations were updated to the 18th Edition in order to prevent fatalities caused by falling wires. New cable installations should be adequately supported so they won’t collapse in the case of a fire. This applies to all areas, not just escape routes.

Fittings and fixtures used should also comply with the 18th Edition. Our metal cable clips have a melting point of over 1000°C and meet all the requirements of the updated regulations. Not to mention being quick and simple to install.

Once the terminal is installed, our flexible cables can be fitted onto smoke and fire detectors, call points, sounders, and beacons. No annoying sheaths, wraps or foils, which would otherwise need removing. We offer fire alarm cables in red or white with 2-core and 4-core options. They are supplied on a strong plastic reel for easy storage and use.

  • What is the difference between red and white fire alarm cables?

There is no real difference between red and white fire alarm cables in terms of functionality. Most people prefer to install red cables as they are easy to identify. However, you may prefer white if you want a more discreet aesthetic. Just be sure it’s a unique colour that can be differentiated from other types of electrical wiring within the building.

  • What type of cable is used for a fire alarm?

Firstly, all fire alarm cables and fittings should be fire-resistant. Our red and white cables still provide electricity during a fire. This is ideal for keeping your emergency lighting and fire alarm system powered for as long as possible.

In terms of 2 or 4-core cables, this depends on your alarm system size. However, 4-core will perform faster as it carries twice the amount of current. As a result, they are thicker in size and more expensive.

Bell wire is perfect for interconnecting your domestic smoke alarm as well as temporary site alarms, for example on construction sites or events.

  • Who should install fire alarm cables and fittings?

We recommend that all fire alarms be installed by a trained, qualified engineer or electrician. Including maintaining and replacing wiring and cables. This is to ensure the alarm system is fitted and functioning correctly, as well as comply with the British Safety Standards.

Inadequate installation could be life-threatening. So, it's important that whoever is installing your cables and fittings understands the wiring system and electrics.
