LifeVac® is an MHRA regulated anti-choking device that features a simple and effective operation. The first step is to attach the correctly sized mask onto the base, then position the mask so the top is over the bridge of the nose, and the bottom is between the lip and the chin. Hold the mask in place with your non-dominant hand, and use your other to depress the bellows, then pull the handle back swiftly to generate suction that removes the object. You can repeat this process either until successful or emergency services arrive.
While there is a surplus of evidence that LifeVacs are a reliable and successful anti-choking measure, it is still both their and our firm recommendation that you follow established first aid protocols and call emergency services before utilising the LifeVac. Also, the device should only be used with the casualty in a rigid standing, sitting, or lying down position.
