Panic Bolts

Panic bolts are essential safety devices designed to allow quick and easy exit through fire doors in the event of an emergency. In line with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, all final exit doors must be openable from the inside without the use of a key or special knowledge. Panic bolts help meet this requirement by enabling safe, fast egress while still keeping the building secure from the outside. Explore our full range of reliable, safety-certified panic bolts built to meet fire safety regulations and standards.

What is a panic bolt?

Panic bolts are used to lock and secure external fire doors without threatening the safe escape of people from the building in the event of a fire. The bolts safely secure the door from a security perspective, but will open when the push bar is activated from the inside to allow people to exit through the door.

How does a panic bolt work?

Panic bolts are spring loaded and held in place by either a ceramic or glass tube. In the event of an emergency where an external fire door is locked and people need to exit through the door in an emergency, they can press the fire door push bar to break the panic bolt tubing. This activates the string and allows the bolts to retract to open the door.
