Wireless Smoke Alarms
Our range of wireless smoke alarms are radio-interlinked and battery-powered, which means you have complete protection throughout your home and they’re easy to install yourself with no wiring required. Best of all, it now doesn’t have to cost a fortune either.
As standard, these alarms can wirelessly communicate with each other. This means that when one device detects something, all connected alarms sound to ensure you’re alerted no matter where you are. Plus, they’re battery-powered, making it easy to retrofit these into your home with the services of an electrician.
But with our range of X-Sense Pro smart smoke alarms, when you install them alongside the Home Hub, these can connect to your Wi-Fi and will even send alerts to your mobile phone. The app then lets you rename each alarm, receive push notifications when an alarm is activated or has a low battery, and can be silenced with just a tap.
Do Wireless Smoke Alarms Meet Scottish Regulations?
Yes. In Scotland, homes are now required to have interconnected smoke and heat alarms, as well as a carbon monoxide alarm which doesn’t have to interconnect. Well, with our X-Sense ProConnected range, you go even further and can have all three types connected. There’s no requirement for these alarms to be mains-powered or interlinked by cable, which makes these alarms one of the easiest solutions on the market as you can install these yourself without needing an electrician.
Can I Use Wireless Alarms In My Rental Property?
If you’re in England or Scotland, the answer is yes. Our wireless interconnected smoke alarms supersede the requirements, and better still, they’re cost-effective and easy to install. Just make sure they’re tested regularly.
If you’re in Wales or Northern Ireland, unfortunately, these are not suitable for rented properties but are still a great choice for your home.
How Do The Wireless Smoke Alarms Work?
There are two ways you can interconnect our X-Sense range of smoke, heat and carbon monoxide alarms. Firstly, you can utilise the RF technology inside to connect up to 24 devices. This means that even when just one alarm detects a fire, or carbon monoxide, all of the connected devices sound.
Alternatively, when you purchase and connect the smart home hub, you can connect all of the alarms to your Wi-Fi home network. This then gives you the ability to control all of the devices using the X-Sense Home Security app on your Android or Apple iOS device. You can give each device a unique name, test and monitor the alarms from anywhere at any time, and you’ll even receive push notifications if a connected alarm is activated.
Which Wireless Alarms Should I Install In My Home?
Most homes will be different, so there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer. As a rule of thumb, you should have optical smoke alarms fitted in the rooms your family spend the most time in – living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms – as well as hallways and landings. Heat alarms will be most suitable for places like the kitchen, garage or loft as they’re activated by an increase in temperature and will be unaffected by steam, dust and cooking fumes.
As a minimum, carbon monoxide alarms should be installed in any room which has a solid fuel burning device, including fireplaces, gas boilers and gas stoves. It is also recommended that you install these in bedrooms at pillow height so you’re protected when you’re most vulnerable. Even if you don’t have any devices like these in your home, it can still seep through walls from a neighbouring property, so is better to be sure.
