The electrically operated smoke vent ensures key escapes routes, such as stairwells and corridors, stay accessible with minimal smoke build-up. Allowing the release of smoke and heat from buildings in the case of fire, the Em-Vent electric smoke vent is manufactured by Sertus, is fully-certified to EN12101-2 and CE marked. Plus, the glazed vent doubles as a rooflight to provide maximum daylight so you can make full use of natural light and can be used for comfort ventilation too.

Supplied with everything you need to install a reliable and automatic smoke ventilation system, this kit comes with a glazed vent with upstand, control panel, manual control point, and smoke detector with base. As soon as the presence of smoke is detected, the Em-Vent will fully open to 160° in under 60 seconds.

How Does The Automatic Smoke Vent Work?

Once your smoke ventilation system is installed, the vent will be controlled by the single zone control panel which is designed to control the operation of the electric opening system for fire and comfort ventilation. This is simple to operate via the front panel and can be connected to an existing building management or fire alarm system. Plus, it features a 72-hour backup battery.

With the smoke detector, the Em-Vent allows for early fire detection to automatically open the vent for a quick response. The manual call point can be opened in order to test and reset the system, features an audible buzzer, and has a break glass panel to activate the system in an emergency.

Suitable for use as a roof access facility too, the skylight vent is fire rated, compliant with Building Regulations ADB and ADL, is CE marked, manufactured to ISO 9001, and the kit is fully certified to EN12101-2, 9 and 10 for a fully-compliant system.

And don’t worry about unauthorised access because every Em-Vent smoke ventilator is supplied with a patented high-security screwbolt as standard.

Which Smoke Vent Do I Need?

Available as a square or rectangular vent in a variety of sizes and choice of glazing, it’s important to ensure you purchase the right size and specification.

When selecting the size, this relates to the internal roof opening. As a rough guide, you will require 125mm extra on each side to accommodate the necessary upstand which raises the smoke vent by 150mm, and should then be installed upon a builder’s upstand of at least 150mm. This is because smoke vents must be 300mm above roof level, as a minimum, to comply with regulations.

The glazing is a domed, double-skinned polycarbonate material which is available either as clear of opal diffused.

Which Glazing Option Is Right For Me?

The polycarbonate allows light to pass through to the area below and meets the highest fire rating available. Certified as non-fragile, the glazing has been impact tested to 1200 Joules (EN1873) and whilst being economical with a heat insulating U-Value of 2.68W/m2K.

The Clear option has a very high light transmission of up to 83% to provide direct light, with care needed to prevent ‘solar-overheating’. The Opal Diffused option maintains high light transmission of up to 58% whilst evenly diffusing the light to the area below, with a translucent finish for increased privacy. Other sizes and specifications are available upon request.
