Ear Defenders

Whether you call them ear defenders or ear muffs, they do the same job of protecting your hearing to prevent temporary, or permanent, damage. Ideal for those who can’t stand having things in their ear, the cup fits snuggly over the ear and creates a seal to reduce the sound waves which reach your inner ear.

It’s important that whatever you choose, it provides the correct level of protection, is suitable for the task at hand, and most importantly, suits the needs of the person wearing them. Suitable for different head shapes and sizes, most are adjustable meaning you haven’t to worry about selecting the right size.

Particularly the case with our high-quality Moldex hearing protection, they combined reliable and easy protection with comfort, meaning you can wear them for hours without bother. They feature foam cushions within the cup which provide even pressure distribution and won’t squash your ear either.

If you need to wear ear defenders along with a safety hat, then check out our JSP helmet-mounted ear defenders which attach to our JSP safety helmets. These allow you to have complete protection which doesn’t impact the effectiveness of each other.

Choosing The Right Protection

It’s essential to know the exposure levels before purchasing any type of hearing protection. You should look out for the SNR value, which is the number of potential decibels the hearing protection will reduce the noise levels by when worn correctly.

The ultimate purpose is to reduce sound levels to a safe level, ideally between 70 and 80 decibels. And just as it is important to reduce sound levels, you need to ensure you’re not over protecting as this can result in the wearer not hearing important everyday sounds, including the fire alarm.

For example, an average sound level of 113 decibels would require ear muffs with at least an SNR value 34, in order to bring the in-ear exposure level down to 79dB.
