Wet chemical fire extinguisher

Developed for the sole purpose of fighting deep fat cooking fires, the wet chemical fire extinguisher is a recent innovation. Normal extinguishers will not cool a deep fat fire and can cause the hot oil to splash onto the user which is dangerous, but a wet chemical fire extinguisher fixes all that.

In fact, wet chemical extinguishers are so unique that a new fire class, Class F, and a new British Standard, BS 7937: 2000 had to be devised for them. The first one to appear was the Chubb FryFighter and a few others have followed.

The 6 litre size makes it easy for anyone to pick up but will fight a mighty 75 litre fat fire, even though the fat can be burning at 340 degrees! The specially formulated wet chemical causes a saponification effect that results in a thick, soapy foam smothering the fat and creating a barrier against re-ignition.

This chemical layer will also cool the fat but should be given a long time to do so.

The long lance applicator enables the user to stand well back and to gently apply the wet chemical onto the fire without danger. However, as the method of use is different to other fire extinguishers, we recommend that commercial kitchen staff be given quality fire training.

Although this extinguisher is not to be used on live electrical equipment, the heat of the moment can cause accidental spraying onto electrical items nearby so the special spray nozzle has been tested and passed the BSi 35 kv conductivity test. Another safety feature for the user.
