So you’re bored of the same old yawn-inducingly identical red fire extinguishers. You want to incorporate a little elegance and sophistication in your fire safety equipment. You want the designer appeal of your fabulous office or home to be echoed in the more mundane equipment. Well, we have a treat in store for you then. Have a look at our super-shiny, sleek and contemporary chrome fire extinguisher.
No longer will you have the anguish of a big red fire extinguisher standing next to a clashing pink wall. This gorgeous piece of equipment will complement your décor and add some class, as well as safety, to your room.
So, a little bit of sciencey, kitemarky, law-abidingy detail. These lovely chrome fire extinguishers are technically not chrome fire extinguishers at all. They are actually stainless steel fire extinguishers, but the high grade steel is polished up using some magical equipment, and this makes them super-shiny and enables them to masquerade as chrome. You can get water or foam chrome extinguishers from Fire Protection Online in the chrome finish. There are also CO2 models, but these are made from aluminium rather than steel – they still look pretty good to me though!
So, to kitemarking and whatnot. Portable fire extinguishers usually marked with the British Standards Institute or BSI standard of BS EN3. Now, as these little beauties are chrome, there is a wee problem with that. BS EN 3-7:2004, Part 16.1 (that’s a lot of numbers and letters to remember!) says that 95% of the extinguisher body must be red. Now, as these are chrome, obviously that is not the case.
However, fear not. There is a silver (or, in fact, chrome) lining to this cloud – BS EN3 is still just a recommendation, and not the law. These extinguishers are made with exactly the same components are the red ones, which pass all the BS EN3 kitemark tests, and so it is only the colour that prevents them from displaying that lovely kitemark. In fact, we fell more of these silvery beauties now than we did before the BSI standard was introduced.
Of course, a fire extinguisher sign should always mark the location of a fire extinguisher, so even though your extinguisher complements your room, it won’t blend in so much that you cannot find it if the need arises. The stainless steel finish also has another advantage – it is resistant to corrosion. Therefore, they are ideally suited for areas such as swimming pools, spas and marine locations where other models would be subject to attack from beasties such as chlorine and sea-salt.
So, a convincing argument for getting one of these chrome beauties installed into your premises, and adding an air of design elegance. Practical, yet beautiful – a winning combination methinks.
